Upcoming Events:
December 4: Kindergarten to library. Need some time to get ready for the Holidays? The Sophomore class will offer babysitting in the Vale Gym from 5:00-10:00 p.m. $10 per child or $25 per family.
December 9: Late start. School starts two hour later and buses will run 2 hours later. School starts at 10:20 a.m.
December 10: Cookie Dough Delivery
December 11: Gingerbread shop 11:00-3:00
December 16: 1st grade Rotary Christmas party 11:15-12:45
December 17: 2nd grade Christmas program 12:35 for Vale; 2:00 for parents, Student of the Month 8:35, Trait is Kindness

Principal’s Message:
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. We are looking forward to accomplishing a lot in the classroom as we finish out 2009! I would like to remind you that when we return to school in January we will begin our second round of MAPS testing in grades 2-4. We use this data to make important instructional decisions for your child, so it is imperative that they do their best!
Please fill out the “Information Update” below and return it to school if your child’s contact information has changed. This is extremely important for the safety of your child and to assist our teachers in communicating with you.

Ready! for Kindergarten:
We are beginning an exciting program for all 4 year old children in Cashmere called Ready! for Kindergarten. We are offering this program to prepare all children in our district for their first day of school. This program will be offered three times during the school year and will focus on literacy, math and social skills. We will expand the program over the next couple of years to include children birth to 4 years of age. Here is a message stating the importance of this program from the National Children’s Reading Foundation:
Today, only 50% of kindergarteners nationwide are fully ready. This means many children are one to two years behind their classmates the first day of school. Such a large difference is extremely hard to overcome. Even though kindergarten teachers do their best, it is often impossible for unprepared students to close the readiness gap in one year while half the class continues to leap ahead in reading and learning.
Students who are not prepared for school struggle for years to catch up, and many never do. Ready! for Kindergarten teams up with parents to help children be ready for a happy and successful school year. Research shows that five-year-olds who are ready for school start ahead and stay ahead, year after year.
Cold Weather:
The cold weather is here so please send your children with appropriate clothing. October 30 is the last day we will allow children to wear shorts to school. We also recommend coats, hats and gloves.
Conference Week:
You will be receiving information about scheduling a meeting with your child’s teacher during conference week. You will have the opportunity to schedule a meeting that most conveniently works with your schedule. The meeting times will be scheduled as we receive the information, so get them in quickly.

Listos! Para el Kinder:
Nosotros estamos empezando un nuevo emocionante programa para todos los niños de 4 anos de Cashmere llamado LISTOS! Para el kinder. Nosotros estamos ofreciendo este programa para preparar todos los niños en nuestro distrito para su primer día de escuela. Este programa será ofrecido tres veces durante el año escolar y se enfocara en fluidez, matemáticas y habilidades sociales. Nosotros expandiremos el programa en los próximos años para incluir niños desde que nacen hasta los 4 años de edad. Aquí esta un mensaje sobre la importancia de este programa de la fundación nacional de niños lectores:
Hoy, solamente el 50% de los niños de kinder a nivel nacional están listos. Esto quiere decir que muchos niños están 2 o 3 años atrasados comparados con sus compañeros el primer día de clase. Tan grande es la diferencia que es extremadamente difícil sobresalir. Aun que los maestros de kinder hagan lo mejor, es a menudo imposible para estudiantes no preparados a que disminuyan la distancia en un año mientras que la mitad de la clase continué moviéndose hacia delante en lectura y aprendiendo.
Los estudiantes que no están preparados para la escuela luchan por varios años para disminuir la distancia y muchos nunca llegan a disminuirla. Listos! Para el kinder forma equipo con los padres para ayudar al niño a estar listo para tener un feliz y triunfante año escolar. Los estudios muestran que los niños de 5 años que están listos para la escuela comienzan adelante y se quedan adelante año tras año.
Ambiente Frió:
El ambiente frió ya esta aquí así que mande a su hijo con la ropa apropiada. El 30 de Octubre es el último día que se permitirá que su hijo traiga pantaloncillos cortos a la escuela. Nosotros también recomendamos que traigan abrigos, gorras y guantes.
Semana de conferencias:
Usted estará recibiendo información sobre el horario de la junta con el maestro de su hijo durante la semana de conferencias. Usted tendrá la oportunidad de pedir una junta que mejor funcione con su horario. Los horarios de la junta serán programados a como vayamos recibiendo la información, así que asegurase de mandarlo cuando antes posible.

Por favor no se les olvide apoyar el evento del PTO para recaudar fondos de galletas que termina el 4 de Noviembre. Nuestra meta es la de recaudar suficiente dinero que nos permita adquirir una cámara de documentos en cada salón.

Yo estoy gustoso de anunciarles que la escuela primaria Vale ha recibido el premio de gran escuelas del 2009. El centro para educación efectiva y Phi delta kappa han trabajado juntos para honrar a la escuela con las mejoras mas altas en el estado de Washington. Una nota rápida de las organizaciones:
Su escuela, en los últimos 7 anos ha demostrado una mejora ejemplar en logros estudiantiles que es medido por el WASL. De hecho, ustedes son una de el 5% de las escuelas con las mejoras mas altas en su nivel de grados (primaria, Secundaria, instituto) en el estado de Washington. Este ano, 55 escuelas primarias, 25 secundarias y 24 institutos están siendo reconocidos. Que logro tan sobresaliente!

Recordándoles el lonche
Unos pocos recordatorios cuando va a comer lonche con su hijo(a) en la escuela: Por favor acuérdese de llamar primero en la mañana para ordenar su lonche o ensalada para que las cocineras tengan tiempo suficiente para preparé su comida. Lonche de un visitante adulto cuesta $3.00 y niño visitando $2.25. La señora Espíndola no puede recibir dinero en la línea del lonche, por favor llegue a la oficina y pague por adelantado. Usted estará, de cualquiera forma, necesita recordarle a la señora Espíndola que usted va a pedir su lonche o ensalada una vez que llegue a la cafetería.
En este ano los precios son los siguientes:
Desayuno estudiantil $1.50
Desayuno adulto $2.00
Todos los visitantes $2.00
Lonche estudiantil $2.00
Lonche adulto $3.00

Las leyes del estado no nos permiten mantener balances negativos. Por favor ponga mucha atención a notas de lonche que mandemos a casa. Una vez que su hijo(a) reciba una nota azul, la cuenta de su hijo(a) tiene un balance negativo. Por favor acuérdese de ponerse al corriente lo más pronto posible.
Por parte PTO:
Ha habido un cambio de horario para el teatro de los niños de Missoula desde que mandamos el boletín en Septiembre. Las audiciones ahora serán para el 26 de Octubre a si como la primera practica. Habrá prácticas del 26 de Octubre hasta el 30 de Octubre. Las presentaciones serán el 30 de Octubre del 2009. Más información estará disponible una vez que se acerque el día.
Lectura familiar y noches de intercambio de libros es miércoles 23 de Septiembre de 6-7pm en la escuela primaria. Escuchen al principal Morgan, a las porristas de Cashmere y otros animadores invitados leer su libros favoritos de infancia. Traigan un libro para intercambiar por otro para que se lo lleven a casa.

I am pleased to announce that Vale Elementary has received the 2009 Great Schools Award. The Center for Educational Effectiveness and Phi Delta Kappa have worked together to honor the highest improving schools in the state of Washington. A quick note from the organizations:
Your school, over the past 7 years has demonstrated exemplary improvement in student achievement as measured by the WASL. In fact, you are one of the 5% highest improving schools at your grade level (elementary, middle/junior, high) in the state of Washington. This year, 55 elementary schools, 25 middle or junior high schools and 24 high schools are being recognized. What an outstanding accomplishment!

A few reminders when having lunch at school with your child: Please remember to call first thing in the morning to order your lunch or salad bar so the kitchen has ample time to prepare extra food. Adult visitor lunches are $3.00 and visiting child lunches are $2.25. Mrs. Espindola cannot take money in the lunch line, so please stop by the office and pay ahead of time. You will, however, need to remember to tell Mrs. Espindola that you are taking a lunch or salad once you are in the lunchroom.
This year’s prices are as follows:
Student breakfast $1.50
Adult Breakfast $2.00
All Visitors $2.00
Student Lunch $2.00
Adult lunch $3.00
Student visitor $2.25
Adult visitor $3.00
State laws do not allow us to carry negative balances. Please pay close attention to the lunch notes that are sent home. Once your child receives a blue note, their account is in the negative. Please remember to take care of this promptly.

There has been a scheduling change for Missoula Children’s Theater since the PTO newsletter went out in September. Auditions are now scheduled for October 26 as well as the first practice. Practice runs from October 26 through October 30. Performances are scheduled for October 30, 2009. More information will be provided as the time nears.
Family Reading and Book Swap Night is Wednesday, September 23rd from 6-7 pm at Vale.
Listen to Principal Morgan, Cashmere Bulldog Cheerleaders and more guest speakers read their favorite childhood books. Bring one book to exchange for another book to take home.
