DE LA DIRECTORA:
Apenas y lo puedo creer que el mes de Mayo a llegado. Este es el tiempo para entrar en pánico para un director. ¡Es el tiempo del año que miro atrás hacia la lista de cosas que “debo hacer” y la lista de cosas que “quiero hacer” y comienzo a considerar si estas listas son cosas que “tengo que hacer”! Como se pueden imaginar ya nos encontramos planeando para el próximo año escolar 2009-2010. Como a sido nuestra costumbre en el pasado, no podrán seleccionar el maestro de su hijo para el próximo año. Adjunto con esta carta encontrara la información con el proceso para el lugar de los estudiantes.
Esta semana hemos tenido varios niños que vienen a la oficina con quejas sobre sus juguetes de casa que están perdidos o robados. Mandamos un recordatorio para los niños diciendo que si traen juguetes de casa será con riesgos. ¡Aunque me encantaría resolver el misterio de estos juguetes, parece ser que hay más juguetes y niños que tiempo! ¡Continuamos a estresar comportamiento “respetuoso y responsable” y enseñamos la importancia de la honestidad; sin embargo los animamos para que animen a sus hijos dejar sus juguetes personales en casa! ¡Como siempre, gracias por su cooperación!

DE LA ENFERMERA:
Aun tenemos algo de enfermedad que se pasea por Vale y la mejor manera de cuidarnos es practicar lavarnos las manos bien, toser y estornudar usando una papel y luego tirarlo, mucho descanso y buena nutrición. Para asegurar que los gérmenes/virases no se pasen, favor de tomarle la temperatura a su hijo en la mañana antes de venir a la escuela si no se sienten bien. Si tienen fiebre de más de 100 grados necesitan permanecer en casa y descansar. Si el niño viene a la escuela con fiebre entonces los gérmenes/virases se pasan a otros niños y maestros. Antemano les agradecemos su ayuda para mantener la Escuela Vale saludable.
Si su hijo recientemente visito México o alguna área afectada de los Estados Unidos y tienen los síntomas de la influenza como la fiebre, dolor de garganta y tos, debe ponerse en contacto con su doctor para platicar sobre estos síntomas. Debe asegurarse de hacerle saber sobre su recién viaje.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It is truly hard to believe that May has arrived. This is panic time for the principal. It is the time of year when I look back at the “must do” list and the “want to do list” and begin to consider if I really “must do” everything on the list! As you can imagine we are well into the planning for the 2009-2010 school year. As has been our past practice, we will not take requests for specific teachers. Enclosed in this newsletter is the student placement procedures information.
This week we have had a several children come to the office with complaints about toys from home being lost or stolen. We sent out a reminder to the kids that if they bring toys to school it is “at their own risk.” As much as I would like to solve the mysterious disappearance of toys, it seems that there are more kids and toys than time! We continue to stress “responsible and respectful” behavior and to teach the importance of honesty; however we encourage you to have your children keep their personal toys at home! As always, thank you for your cooperation!

FROM THE NURSE “JUST ANOTHER REMINDER”
We have still have some illness going around the Vale and the best way to take care of ourselves is to practice good hand washing skills, cough or sneeze into a tissue then discard, lots of rest and good nutrition. To assure that germs/viruses are not spread, please take your child’s temperature in the morning before coming to school if they are not feeling well. If running a temperature of 100 degrees or more they will need to rest at home. If the child comes to school with a fever then the germs/viruses are spread to the other students and staff. Thank you in advance for your assistance in keeping Vale Elementary healthy.
If your child has been recently to Mexico or affected areas in the U.S. and have symptoms of influenza such as fever, sore throat and cough you should contact your health care provider to discuss your child’s symptoms. Make sure the caregiver is aware of your recent travel history.
4th Annual Camp Fire and Sing-Along!
Please join us on Saturday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m. for a campfire and sing along! We will meet at Lincoln Rock State Park in the amphitheater for singing and s’mores! We provide the s’more fixin’s and the musical accompaniment. You provide the kids and voices! Questions? Please contact Mrs. Keene.

STUDENT PLACEMENT PROCEDURES
GRADES K-4 PLACEMENT
This letter is to explain student placement procedures at Vale Elementary School. Teachers will meet in May to discuss placements. It is our goal to establish classrooms that meet the educational needs of all students. The following criteria must be considered to form academically and socially balanced classes:
Overall Achievement Behavior Considerations
Reading and Math Levels Individual/Group Social Skills
Boy/Girl Ratios Special Program Needs
After reviewing the above criteria, parents can understand why it is very difficult to grant parent requests for placement. It is also important for parents to understand that if you have any information about your child that could be important in classroom placement; this information can be shared with me by completing the "Student Placement Information" form. This form is available in the office and should be returned no later than May 15, 2009.
Our plan is to have your student's teacher placement in their report card at the end of this school year. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about student placement procedures.

PROCEDIMIENTO DE COLOCACIÓN DE ESTUDIANTE
COLOCACIÓN DE LOS GRADOS KINDER AL TERCER
Esta carta explica el procedimiento de colocación de la escuela elemental. Los maestros tendrán una junta en Mayo para discutir las colocaciones. Nuestra meta es establecer y lograr que cada salón cumpla con las necesidades de los estudiantes. Esta forma está disponible en la oficina de la escuela. Esta forma tiene que estar de regreso antes del 28 de Abril 2008.

Vale Elementary News
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
MAY 13TH LATE START HAS BEEN CHANGED TO MAY 6
Spring has come and with it I would like to remind you of the following dress code. Shorts are fine to wear as long as they are no shorter than the tips of your child’s finger when they are standing. Tank tops should have a one inch strap-no spaghetti straps please. We have also asked the kids to save bare tummies for the swimming pool. Flip flops are very dangerous for our age children, so we ask that they not wear them to school.
Please remember that children who walk are to arrive at school no earlier than 7:45 a.m. if they eat breakfast at school, and 8:10 if they have breakfast at home. We also have several kids who are “hanging out” after school waiting for family or friends to pick them up. We have supervision until 3:15 and after that it can be unsafe for the kids to be outside. Thanks for you help!
WASL
It is time for us to see what our children “know and are able to do” on the state WASL exam. We will begin WASL testing on Tuesday April 14th and the test will continue for two weeks. This is an important part of our assessment program. Although many complain about the WASL, we use the WASL results as an important source of information to help us understand how we are performing as a school, and as one important measure of how your kids are doing individually. Please have your children here everyday and encourage them to do their best. Although we have a make up opportunity it is very tough for your children and for us to do the make up tests. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call.

La primavera ha llegado y con esta llegada quisiera recordarles de lo siguiente. Los niños pueden usar chorrees siempre y cuando sean no más cortos de las puntas de sus dedos al estar parados. Las camisetas sin mangas deben tener los tirantes de una pulgada y no es permitido usar tirantes espagueti. También les hemos pedido a los niños dejar sus pancitas descubiertas para la piscina. Las chanclas “slip-flops” son muy peligrosas para nuestros niños, entonces les pedimos que no las usen en la escuela.
Favor de recordar que los niños que caminan a la escuela no deben llegar antes de las 7:45 a.m. si es que van a desayunar en la escuela, y no antes de las 8:10 a.m. si es que ya desayunaron en casa. Tenemos varios niños que están llegando antes y quedándose después de la escuela al esperar amigos o familia que los recojan. Tenemos supervisión hasta las 3:15 p.m. solamente y después de eso es peligroso que los niños jueguen afuera. ¡Gracias por su ayuda!

Por favor asegure que su niño venga a la escuela todos los días y anímelos para que hagan lo mejor que pueden.
